We have reached the tenth day of our Sicilian tour, and after traversing the peaks of Etna and the medieval villages of the Madonie, today we plunge into the wildest heart of the island: the Nebrodi Park.
If the Madonie are the manicured garden of Sicily, the Nebrodi are its freest and most untouched soul. This is the longest mountain range in the Sicilian Apennines, a territory stretching across the provinces of Messina, Enna, and Catania, characterized by ridges that defy the sky and forests so dense they look like they belong in a legendary tale.
1. The Rocche del Crasto: A Lunar Panorama
The undisputed symbol of the park is the Rocche del Crasto, imposing limestone formations that rise like natural cathedrals between the municipalities of Alcara Li Fusi and Longi. Walking along the trails leading to these peaks means immersing yourself in a landscape that alternates green meadows with white rocks glowing under the August sun.
2. The Kingdom of Griffon Vultures
